15. Leonard Hughes was born 1 June 1924 in Oldbury 16 Titford Road 3 and died 14th May 1976 in Erdington 76 Grange Road 4 aged 51. The cause of his death was Carciromtosis. Calcinoma of Bronchitis.
General Notes: Leonard and Florence married while Leonard was on a two week leave from the Army during WWII in 1945.
The first week of his leave was spent with his parents in John's Road and marrying the following week before rejoining his regiment.
Leonard enlisted in September 1943, and released from duty in August 1947.
Born at 16 Titford Road in June 1924, late in the marriage of his parents, his sister Ethel being born in 1906 and George in 1915, other children in the marriage have not been found as yet, although there is some history of possible a William dying from illness.
It is worth noting that in 1891 16 Titford Road was occupied by Leonard's Great Uncle and Great grandmother.
Another Uncle Joe used to live with Len's mother after the family moved to St John's Road (Len & Florence later moved here making this there family home), eventually being thrown out because of his drunkenness. Joe spent a lot of tie in lodgings before passing from pneumonia after being pulled from the local canal near to where he was staying. it is also rumoured that he was often found sleeping at the bottom of the garden in St Johns Road in the old Fowl coupe.
Florence (Len's wife) worked at the Parkes Sweet Factory in Langley Green near to the railway station. Previously working at Albright & Wilson during the war making tracer bullets

UNITARIAN MEETING HOUSE, BIRMINGHAM STREET.
THE first Meeting House was built in 1708. In 1715 the mob set it on fire while the minister was preaching. It was re-built for about £300 and opened on the 12th July,1807.
In 1862 and 1889 considerable sums of money were spent in alterations and improvements.
The Oldbury Lecture was founded in memory of the ministers who were ejected from their livings in 1662; it was delivered every year for more than a century and was discontinued in 1864.
